Youth desk looks forward to the future

The Primrose SAPS Crime Prevention Youth Desk celebrated a successful year with a prize-giving and a fun-filled team-building day.

Another year has almost come and gone.

For the Primrose SAPS Crime Prevention Youth Desk, 2019 has been a successful year with the organisation growing in numbers throughout the year.

“I think we have had a great year,” said Dibuseng Motlokoa, youth desk secretary.

She spoke to the GCN at the group’s prize-giving which was held at the Primrose Police Station, last Friday.

“Recruitment has gone very well this year and our numbers have grown,” Dibuseng said.

“In addition to this we have organised and hosted a number of successful awareness campaigns and events.

“A big thank you goes to the Primrose CPF for their support throughout, they really have been supportive of everything we have done and everything we continue to do.”

During the prize-giving, Dibuseng received the award for the Youth Desk Member of the Year.

Primrose SAPS Crime Prevention Youth Desk secretary Dibuseng Motlokoa won Youth Desk Member of the Year at a special prize-giving ceremony at the Primrose Police Station, last Friday.

She was thrilled with the award.

“I feel so great after winning this award,” said Dibuseng.

“I feel this award recognises the hard work I have put in.”

Other awards on the day included Most Promising Youth Desk Member of the Year, which was awarded to Siyathandaza Socishe, Most Dedicated Youth Desk Member of the Year, which was awarded to Simnikiwe Mapili and Longest Serving Youth Desk Member, which was awarded to Hlompho Mohloai.

Finally, youth desk chairperson Lote Zimba received a special Sergeant’s Award for his efforts throughout the year.

After the prize-giving, the team headed to Rietvlei Zoo Farm, last Saturday, for a fun-filled team-building day.

“Thank you to Primrose CPF Sector Two and Three for their sponsorship on the day and to Chainpack for sponsoring new shirts to our youth desk members,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police, who is as always very proud of the youth desk members and their dedication.

Heading into the new year the youth desk would like to grow their numbers even more.

“We would love to get more members from Sector Two and Sector Three,” said Dibuseng.

The youth desk is open to community members between the ages of 15 and 35 years, with a passion for helping the community.

The group focuses on awareness campaigns, school searches and motivational performances (with themes dictated and/or determined by the school the group visits), as well as activities that showcase the talents and interests of the members and young people in the community.

Youth desk meetings are held every Monday evening, from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, at the Primrose Methodist Church in Primula Street.
