Protect those lovely tech gifts you’ve bought for Christmas

Insure the tech gifts you buy on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Tech devices have become some of the most popular gifts to buy, especially with Christmas around the corner, they become the ideal gifts.

As Black Friday and Cyber Monday approach, tech gifts can be purchased at great discounted prices.

Tech items are a great gift but are also at risk of being damaged or stolen before Christmas even arrives.

According to the Governance, Public Safety and Justice Survey (GPSJS), there were roughly 1.2 million cases of personal property theft and 58 0000 cases of street robbery, which means it has become a large concern.

Vera Nagtegaal, executive head of Hippo, states that it is important to ensure that your tech devices are covered when leaving your home, as this could save thousands in replacement costs should they be damaged or stolen.

Smash-and-grabs – how you can avoid it happening to you

Customers are also facing financial strain when this does happen, so here are few ways to help ensure this can be avoided:

• Insurance policies: Research insurance companies that offer policies that will cover your tech devices.

• Household content: If your insurance policy only covers household contents, then you should enquire if there is a policy that will cover your tech devices outside your home.

• Leaving tech devices unattended: If you are out and about, make sure your tech devices, such as your cellphone or tablet, are with you and not left unattended.

• Do not advertise your new tech product on social media for you never know who can be watching.

• Make security a priority in your home: Always check your doors are locked and windows are closed before you go to bed at night.

• Always keep your receipts and take a photo of the serial numbers of your devices.

This helps in case you need to make a claim if your tech device is stolen or damaged.
