Handgun, stolen loot seized by EMPD officers in Katlehong

EMPD officers arrested two men believed to be part of a gang which robbed a house.

Armed with the whereabouts of the alleged suspects involved in a house robbery which occurred in Wilbekend, Pretoria, earlier this month, the EMPD Specialised Task Team raided two houses in Katlehong on Wednesday.

During the raid, suspicious items believed to be part of the loot were seized and two suspects were arrested.

The officers were working on a tip-off and at 5am they swooped on a house in Moleleki Street, Sunrise View.

“A 34-year-old man found in a backroom on the property confessed to being part of the gang which robbed the house,” said Kobeli Mokheseng, spokesperson for the EMPD.

“He was arrested after officers found a DVD player and an electronic pad in his possession.”

The suspect then led the officers to a house on Zola Street in Extension Nine, where a 35-year-old man was apprehended following a thorough search of the premises.

Task team members found a 9mm Parabellum Browning handgun, two magazines and 124 live rounds of ammunition behind a couch in the living room.

The men were taken to the Katlehong Police Station and charged with with possession of suspected stolen items and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The duo is expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
