Officers from the Primrose Police Station, community patrollers and members of the Primrose SAPS Crime Prevention Youth Desk discuss gender-based violence issues in Delport informal settlement.

“We realise that a number of incidents of gender-based violence are not reported to the police and we hope to change that.”

Maome, together with officers from the Primrose Police Station, community patrollers and members of the Primrose SAPS Crime Prevention Youth Desk visited the informal settlement to educate the community about gender-based violence issues.

“The main purpose of the visit was to sensitise the residents of the informal settlement about gender-based violence that is happening in that area, including assaults, rapes and domestic violence,” said Maome.

“Residents were encouraged to report incidents to the police and not take the law into their own hands.”
