Woman clocked at 189km/h in Germiston during speed enforcement operation

The EMPD arrested five speedsters on the N3 and N12 highways last weekend.

EMPD officers were out and about on the highways of Germiston and Boksburg last weekend.

Speed enforcement operations were conducted on the N12 highway west near the Atlas Road off-ramp, in Boksburg, last Saturday between 5am and 9am.

The operation yielded two arrests.

“The first arrest took place at 5.40am when a 43-year-old male driving a silver VW Polo ignored the 120km/h speed limit regulatory sign and was clocked doing 172km/h,” said Kobeli Mokheseng, spokesperson for the EMPD.

“He furnished no reason for speeding.”

The next arrest was effected at 6.45am when a 21-year old male driver in a black BMW sedan with four passengers was stopped.

He said they were returning from an 18th birthday celebration.

Both drivers were arrested and taken to the Boksburg North Police Station.

The officers then targeted speedsters on the N3 highway south near the Rand Airport Road off-ramp, last Sunday.

The operation took place between 5am and 10am and three drivers were arrested for exceeding the speed limit.

The highest speed clocked was 189km/h at 5.58am.

The 43-year-old woman driver, of a VW CC sedan, claimed she was rushing to pick up her child in Kibler Park.

The third arrest was a 34-year-old male driving a black Mercedes-Benz sedan.

He was stopped and arrested for clocking 166km/h, citing that he was rushing home from a gathering.

The three were booked at the Germiston Police Station.
