Busy weekend for Katlehong police

The Katlehong police shared their weekend arrest statistics.

Officers from the Katlehong SAPS Crime Prevention Unit, with the help of detectives from the Katlehong Police Station and EMPD, held several crime prevention operations in the area over the weekend.

The operations, held between November 15 and 17, led to the arrest of 61 suspects.

The accused were charged with several different offences.

Charges included pointing a firearm, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, shoplifting, theft, common assault, domestic violence, reckless and neglect driving, possession of drugs, contravening a court order and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Katlehong SAPS station commander Col Sammy Thambo was pleased with the arrests made and encouraged the community to continue to help in the fight against crime.

He further urged the community not to buy ‘ghost items’ (which is an item you haven’t seen).

“We know criminals are opportunists and will try to take advantage of desperate people,” said Thambo.

All of the arrested suspects appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court where their cases were postponed for various reasons.
