Fun day brings families together

Brethren in Christ Church South Africa held a fun-filled family sports day on the sports field of Germiston South Primary School, recently.

Members of the Brethren in Christ Church South Africa (BICCSA) came together for a fun-filled family sports day, recently.

The event, which was held on the sports field of Germiston South Primary School, included a number of fun activities like a 5km fun walk, obstacle courses, games, football and netball.

“We had a wonderful and successful event,” said Innocent Dube on behalf of the church.

“The day was filled with inspiring cohesion and unity of the church members and we are thankful for that.”

The church, which has branches in Gauteng, Western Cape and Eastern Cape, was established in South Africa in 1988 by Rev Hamilton Madlabane, with the support of the American branch.

The first community-based branch of the congregation was established in Soshanguve, in Pretoria.

“The recent family sports day’s main focus was fellowship and building strong family bonds but also allowed us the opportunity to raise funds that will be used towards the church’s national projects,” explained Innocent.

After the event the church sent thanks to a number of organisations which helped make the day a success.

“Thank you to the members of the EMPD who escorted us and kept us safe during our 5km fun walk,” said Innocent.

“The level of support and service we got from the EMPD was exceptional, from the booking process to the service delivery itself.”

BICCSA also thanked Virgin Active’s Germiston and Meyersdal branches for their support.

“Their sales teams were on hand to offer health and wellness tips and encouraged our guests to focus on living a healthier lifestyle,” explained Innocent.

“Above that they offered a free abs class which was not only motivational, but lots of fun as well.”

TeamXtreme was thanked for providing fun and exciting obstacles and games for the event.

Finally the church thanked the food stall owners and other small businesses that helped on the day.

“A big thank you goes to Mangena Projects, Exuberant Innovations, Mafu Projects and Nkala Projects, to name a few,” said Innocent.

“Thank you for supporting our day.”

Following the success of the event, BICCSA is already hard at work planning their next event which is scheduled for May, 2020.

“Our events will always be open to the public beyond our church congregants,” said Innocent.

“We, therefore, extend an invitation to the community to attend the upcoming event.”
