Promoting safe travel throughout the festive season

Galocity Travels encouraged commuters and residents to travel safely through their I Choose Safety Travel and Road Safety Awareness Campaign.

As we head into the festive season, road safety becomes a great concern for many as they begin to plan their holidays.

With this in mind, Galocity Travels held a special travel and road safety awareness campaign, with the theme ‘I Choose Safety’, in the Germiston CBD, last Saturday.

“Our I Choose Safety Travel and Road Safety Awareness Campaign was a great success,” said Galocity Travels’ manager Nancy Mutwani.

“We were thrilled with the amazing support from our partners Intercape, Greyhound, Citiliner, Eagle Liner, Intercity Xpress, Eldo Coaches, Zororo Phumulani Funeral Services, Kingdom Blue Life Insurance, the EMPD and the community of Germiston as a whole.”

During the event, the team from Galocity Travels, their partners and the Sekhekhe drum majorettes marched through the streets of Germiston, escorted by the EMPD and two buses, one from Eldo Coaches and the other from Eagle Liner, to raise awareness about travelling safely during the festive season.

“We were in such great hands as the EMPD escorted us throughout the march,” said Mutwani.

“The EMPD also shared a number of road safety tips ahead of the festive season.

“The aim of the march was to inform the community about road safety and also tell them more about Galocity Travels.

“The Sekhekhe drum majorettes really brightened up the march and gave a great performance, which I must say was one of the highlights of the day.”

When asked why she thought road safety campaigns are so important ahead of the festive season, Mutwani responded: “During the festive season, there are many people travelling from one town, city or province to another which means our local and national roads are very busy,” she said.

“So we hope that if we share and teach the community road safety tips, it will help reduce the risks on the roads and help us all celebrate a safer festive season.

“We also advise travellers to not travel with fly-by-night bus companies, which may put their lives at risk, but rather use well-known buses that will ensure you get where you are going safely, comfortably and on time.”
