Be aware of your surroundings criminals reportedly target pedestrians carrying cash

Local security company warns residents to be alert as criminals are targeting community members carrying large sums of cash.

Over the past few months, Seven Arrows Security has seen an increase in the number of cash robberies being reported.

“The trend, that does not seem to be dying down, sees criminals targeting individuals (mainly women) walking in the streets and robbing them in broad daylight,” said Jason Mordecai, managing director of Seven Arrows Security.

The modus operandi sees criminals working in a team.

“One will strike up a conversation with a victim while another remains close by, ready to rob the victim.

“Many victims of these crimes report that the initial suspect entices the victims by saying they have just found an envelope containing a large sum of money and offers to share the money with the victim.

“Once the victim is distracted the second suspect then robs them,” explained Mordecai.

The company urges all pedestrians to refrain from engaging in conversations with people who they do not know and to be alert at all times.

“It would also be highly advisable not to carry large sums of money or any valuables with you.

“When choosing routes to your destination please make sure to walk on main roads and areas that are busy with other people around at all times,” Mordecai advised.
