Police arrest two alleged shoplifters

The Primrose police apprehended two men each on a charge of shoplifting.

Primrose police recently arrested two suspects, aged 28 and 31 years old respectively, for two separate shoplifting incidents.

In the first incident the suspect was arrested at a shop on the corner of Violet and Rietfontein roads.

“The complainant alleged that he was busy performing his duties, as the store’s security guard, when he noticed a man allegedly attempting to leave the shop with something wrapped in newspaper,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“When he confronted the man the security guard allegedly discovered stolen items in the newspaper and called the police.”

He was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and detained at the Primrose Police Station.

In the second incident a local security guard at Rose Mall, in Primrose, noticed a man known in the area as an allegedly regularly shoplifter.

“The man allegedly entered a shop, took some meat and attempted to leave without paying for it,” said Maome.

“The complainant followed the suspect and tried to stop him, but he reportedly kept running.

“The suspect was finally cornered and police were called to the scene.”

The man was arrested on a charge of shoplifting.

Both men will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
