Two arrested by Germiston Flying Squad members

Germiston Flying Squad members made two arrests recently.

Members of the Germiston Flying Squad arrested two men, last Sunday, on separate charges.

In the first incident Sgt Johnny Moloto and Sgt Thamsanqa Mtlaping responded to the tracking signal of a hijacked white Nissan Almera that pointed them to a house situated in AM Sikhuba in Vosloorus.

Upon arrival at the house, a 24-year-old man was found inside the home and the vehicle was found parked inside the garage.

The man informed the police that one of his friends had parked the vehicle there for safekeeping.

It is alleged that the Almera was hijacked at gunpoint by two men who had requested a Taxify vehicle to drop them at a certain destination.

“When they were about to reach their destination they pointed a gun at the driver and he was ordered to get out of the vehicle,” said Const Ntombikayise Ngcobo.

“A case of possession of a hijacked motor vehicle was opened at the Vosloorus Police Station and the man will appear in the Vosloorus Magistrate’s Court soon.

“The vehicle was taken to the SAPS Van Ryn Deep Pound in Benoni while investigations continue.

The TV was allegedly stolen during a business robbery which took place at a tavern in Msiliki Section.

The arrestee will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.

The Germiston Flying Squad’s acting unit commander, Capt Rhodes Moss, thanked the members for their hard work.

“Well done to our members for taking the safety and security of our community to heart,” he said.

“Members of the public who are becoming essential partners in the fight against crime are encouraged to continue to report crime and criminals to the police by visiting their nearest police station or calling the Crime Stop number 08600 1011,” said Ngcobo.
