EMPD targets speedsters on Ekurhuleni’s highways

EMPD members were out last weekend to bring speedsters to book.

EMPD Speed Unit members apprehended seven drivers found speeding on the N17, N12 and N3 highways situated in Elsburg, Alberton, Boksburg and Germiston, between October 25 and 27.

On the N17 east last Friday morning, between 6am and 10am, in the Elsburg area, between the Guthrie and Heidelberg bridges, a 43-year-old man, driving a grey Hyundai Accent was stopped and arrested for driving 165km/h in a 120km/h zone.

He gave the excuse that he was late for work.

Then on the N12 east, near the Atlas Road off-ramp in Boksburg, last Saturday, between 5am and 8am, two male drivers were arrested after clocking 166km/h and 213km/h, respectively.

A 40-year-old man, in a blue Audi A4, alleged that he was late for work when stopped at 5.15am for pushing his sedan to 213km/h.

The other man, aged 29, driving a grey Nissan Qashqai, who furnished no reason for speeding, was booked in at 6.30am for driving 166km/h on that 120km/h stretch.
