New EMPD recruits start their duties in Ekurhuleni

The new officers were strategically deployed to three regions of Ekurhuleni.

The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) headquarters in Kempton Park saw 263 EMPD recruits coming together last Monday. They recently completed their 18-month long metro police course.

They gathered in one of the auditoriums and the EMPD chief of police Jabulani Isaac Mapiyeye, along with his management team, made a few announcements.

The thrilled 171 men and 92 women officers, who seemed eager and prepared to fight crime, enforce municipal by-laws and traffic laws, listened attentively to ranking officials and the head of department as advice and cautions were given.

“They were reminded that although today they are 263, initially the number was 270 in January 2018, during the enrolment. But due to four having criminal records and three traffic wardens pausing because the mountain seemed too high for them, the figure changed,” said Kobeli Mokheseng, media liaison officer for the EMPD.

After the chief of police and management completed allocating members accordingly Mapiyeye said, “Lawlessness won’t be tolerated in the City of Ekurhuleni.

“Remember that on August 23, the executive mayor Clr Mzwandile Masina welcomed, congratulated and addressed all of you after a pass-out parade at Germiston Stadium, so go out there, serve, protect and defend the communities of Ekurhuleni, beef up the police visibility and make us proud.”
