Katlehong North SAPS station commander Col Reginah Rampota led a weekend-long operation, with the aim of clamping down on the illegal sale of alcohol and drug-related crimes.

The operation, held between August 16 and 18, was supported by officers from the station’s Social Crime Prevention Unit and Second Hand Goods Office.
Seventeen suspects were arrested by the team, an illegal tavern closed and litres of alcohol confiscated.
The accused were charged with various offences, including driving under the influence of alcohol, dealing in liquor without a licence, theft of a motor vehicle, dealing in drugs, dealing in dagga, possession of drugs, shoplifting, common assault and interfering with police duties.

All of the arrested suspects appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court, where their cases were postponed for various reasons.
