Update: Rand Water confident water will be restored today

Rand Water has been able to repair all the damaged portions of the supply pipeline.

After several days without water residents from a number of Germiston suburbs are at their wits end, however, there may be good news as Rand Water released a statement this morning (Monday) stating the water should be fully restored later today.

“During the night, we were able to repair all the damaged portions of the pipeline,” Rand Water said in the statement.

“At 5.30 am, we began recommissioning the pipeline.

“We are expecting that water will be fully restored in all areas later on today.

“We are continuing to monitor the system and its recovery.”

Rand Water further apologised for the inconvenience the water outage has caused and urged residents to use water sparingly as the system recovers.

Ward 36 councillor Wendy Morgan also urged the community to be patient when waiting for roving water tankers.

“Roving water tankers can be found at the Sunnyridge Circle, but due to the small number of tankers available they will have to go and refill regularly,” said Morgan.

“In addition the tankers will first take water to the Avril Elizabeth Home, local old age homes and local care facilities.

“They have also been dispatched to Bertha Gxowa Hospital, as it is also without water.”

She urged the community to hold off on using too much water, “This is the third major outage and if we start using water too soon it could take days to fill the local reservoirs.

“We are all in this together so please be patient,” Morgan said.
