Update: Rand Water estimates water will be restored tomorrow afternoon

Many Germiston suburbs still without water.

Many Germiston suburbs are still without water after a Rand Water supply line pipe burst yesterday morning (Saturday).

“The areas supplied by this line include Sunnyridge, Sunnyrock, Solheim, Fishers’ Hill, Dawnview, Symhurst, Wanneburg, Gerdview, Homestead, Rustavia, Elandsfotein, Klopperpark and parts of Primrose,” said Ward 36 councillor Wendy Morgan.

Despite the efforts by Rand Water technicians to repair the pipe and restore water to the effected areas, water has still not been restored.

In a statement Rand Water said, “Following proper inspection and assessment of the situation we have regrettably found that the damage to the pipe is more extensive than was initially reported.

“The latest estimated completion tome for repairs is tomorrow afternoon (Monday).

Together with Johannesburg Water and the City of Ekurhuleni we are making provision for water tankers,” the statement continued.

“Roving water tankers can be found at the Sunnyridge circle, but due to the small number of tankers available they will have to go and refill regularly,” said Morgan.

Morgan further pleaded with residents who’s water has returned to still use water sparingly.

“Using water as you normally would will drain the reservoir and prevent it filling,” said Morgan.

She further informed the community not to panic if they see water pouring from fire hydrants in the area.

“If you see water coming from local fire hydrants do not panic this has been done to relieve pressure on the system and get rid of airlocks,” Morgan said.
