A Makause informal settlement man was arrested on charges of rape and possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.

While on a routine patrol last Sunday, officers from the Primrose Police Station received information from the community about a man who was in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“Officers were able to identify his shack after a brief investigation and arrived at the address in the early hours of Monday morning,” said communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.

When the police knocked on the door, the shack’s occupant refused to open the door.

“Police forced the door open and found the suspect and a woman inside the shack,” said Maome.

“During a search of the premises, they found a firearm loaded with one live round of ammunition under the bed.”

The man was unable to provide police with his firearm licence and was arrested.

The suspect was taken to the Primrose Police Station, where he was charged with rape and possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.

He has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, where his case was postponed for a bail application.
