Germiston Flying Squad swoops into Katlehong, recovers stolen vehicle

Police to investigate why stolen vehicles are dumped in Phake section.

Germiston Flying Squad member Const Steven Malungete discovered a suspicious vehicle while out patrolling in Katlehong last Friday at 12.30am.

In Phake section he noticed a stationary red Nissan Almera with its back door wide open.

He went closer to the vehicle and called it in on the SAPS communication radio.

Malungete was told that the vehicle had been stolen in Germiston by an unknown number of suspects.

No arrests in the case have been made so far.

Fingerprints were taken in the recovered vehicle and it was booked into the SAPS vehicle storage pound for further investigation.

“It is alleged that the suspects hijack and take the vehicles in other locations and dump the vehicles in Phake section,” said Const Ntombikayise Ngcobo, Germiston Flying Squad communications officer.

“An investigation will take place as to why Phake section is used to dump stolen vehicles.

“We urge community members to work with the police.

“If people notice any suspicious activity they must call their nearest police station or 10111.”
