Metro responds to refuse collection complaints in Elspark

Elspark residents who have not had their refuse collected on schedule, according to their refuse and waste collection calendars, should expect collection a day after the scheduled day.

An alleged fleet breakdown has led to a backlog in refuse collection in Elspark.

Local resident Jacob Kekana claimed to have not received any prior communication regarding this inconvenience.

“In the last three weeks of June our refuse was not collected and the metro’s call centre was of no assistance,” said Kekana.

“The number we were given to contact the waste department went unanswered.”

In response to a query sent by the GCN, Themba Gadebe, the spokesperson of the metro, said, “The fleet breakdowns that affected Elspark were communicated to the relevant councillors to assist with dissemination of information.

“Furthermore, where refuse was not collected on the scheduled day, as per residents’ refuse and waste collection calendars, it was collected the following day.

“The metro believes the service provided by the call centre was efficient and caters to all complaints logged.”

Should residents continue to experience troubles with refuse collection, they are advised to call the metro’s call centre on 0860 543 000 or call 011 999 1267/1274/1265/1263/5432/8015.
