Inexpensive ideas for celebrating Father’s Day at home

For most dads, the value of spending some real quality time with their children far outweighs the material things.

With the cost of living skyrocketing each day, most fathers would probably be the first to welcome the idea of a fun day spent with his children at home, with as little damage as possible to the budgets of his children.

While many a son or daughter feels the need to buy their father a gift as a token of their affection and appreciation for everything their dad does for them, there is far more value to be found in the quality time spent together, which incidentally costs little or no money.

“Think along the lines of the tried and trusted breakfast in bed – a real treat for the father who has to get up early every morning to go to work and usually finds himself grabbing something to have for breakfast on the go,” explained a busy father himself, Adrian Goslett, regional director and CEO of RE/MAX of Southern Africa.

He went on to say that, for most dads, the value of spending some real quality time with their children far outweighs the material things.

“Having one’s children close by is far more rewarding – and the memories created, far longer lasting than the gift which we unwrap and often put aside for another day,” he said.

There are so many things one could do for one’s dad which could make him feel that extra bit special for Father’s Day and amazingly, several of them can be done right from the comfort of our own homes.

For example, most dads have an endless list of household chores.

Think of how wonderful it would be for your dad to wake up and find that the garage has been tidied, or the lawn has been mowed and the garden spruced up, all without him having to lift a finger.

Alternatively, set up a playlist of his favourite music, and encourage him to sit and relax in his favourite lounge chair while you fix him a cup of his favourite beverage accompanied by a snack of his choice and – very importantly – hand him full command of the TV and decoder remote controls for the day.

“It isn’t very difficult to make Father’s Day special.

“Speaking as a dad myself, more often than not, I’m grateful for even the smallest of treats and spending quality time with my family,” Goslett said.
