Police strive to educate children about their rights

Katlehong North police held a fun-filled National Child Protection Week campaign at Huntersfield Stadium, last Friday.

Katlehong North police came together to celebrate National Child Protection Week, last Friday.

National Child Protection Week is celebrated annually and runs from May 28 to June 4.

Child Protection Week aims to raise awareness of the rights of children, as articulated in the Children’s Act of 2005.

Katlehong North police, with the help of various stakeholders, invited children from various crèches within their precinct to join them at Huntersfield Stadium for an interactive and fun-filled campaign with the theme Let Us Protect All Children.

The team interacted and sang with the children, teaching them more about their rights, child labour, sex exploitation, substance abuse, child abuse, human trafficking and everyday safety.

The children were also taught several emergency numbers they could use in their time of need or to report crimes.

Safety tip pamphlets and informative drawing books were distributed to the children in attendance before they headed home.
