Large parts of Germiston will be without power on Thursday (June 6) from 7am to 5pm.
The planned power interruption will allow metro technicians a chance to upgrade the electrical network.
“This is one of the metro’s plans to minimise the number of electrical equipment failures affecting Germiston and surrounding areas.
“The electrical equipment set to be upgraded supplies power to 10 substations,” explained Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the metro.

The affected areas include, but are not limited to:
1. Albemarle 33kv substation:
- Albemarle Proper and Extension One and Two
- Dinwiddie
- Norton Small Farms
- Union Proper and all extensions
2. Atom Road 33kv substation:
- Castleview Proper and Ext Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine and 10
- Wadeville
- Wadeville Ext One, Four, Five and Six
- Dinwidde Proper and Ext Four
- Estera
3. Calcium 33kv substation:
- Wadeville
- Wadeville Ext Two
- Germiston Ext 32
4. Nampak 33kv substation:
- Roodekop Industrial
- Rondebult and Ext Two
- Leondale
5. Niemann Road 33kv substation:
- Buhle Park and surrounding areas
- Rondebult Proper
- Rondebult (136-IR)
6. Phumula 33kv substation:
- Phumula Township (Roodekop Ext 21)
- Roodekop Ext 11 and 22
- Mapleton Ext 10
7. Roodekop Industries 33kv substation:
- Roodekop Industries
- Roodekop Ext 31
- Leondale
8. Second Input 33kv substation:
- Wadeville
- Wadeville Ext One, Two, Three, Six, Eight, Nine, 10, 12, 14, 17, 30, 31, 37 and 84
- Junction Hill.
