Two arrested for allegedly selling liquor without a licence

Two illegal taverns were closed down by the Primrose police in the Makause informal settlement.

Primrose police continued their efforts to crackdown on the illegal sale of alcohol in Primrose’s informal settlements with an operation in the Makause informal settlement recently.

During the operation, two tavern owners, aged 31 and 38 years old, were arrested on a charge of dealing in liquor without a licence.

The arrests were made after the owners were unable to give the police their liquor licences.

“Officers from the Primrose Police Station entered the settlement on foot to patrol.

“During the patrol, they noticed residents buying and drinking liquor at two separate taverns,” explained communications officer for the Primrose police Sgt Styles Maome.

They approached the owners of each tavern, introduced themselves and asked for the owners’ liquor licences.
