Man dead and two injured in early morning shooting

Katlehong police have opened a case of murder and attempted murder following a shooting in Moseleke East, in Katlehong.

Netcare 911 personnel responded to reports of a shooting in S S Segwane Street in Moseleke East, Katlehong at around 6.41am on Wednesday.

“Reports from the scene indicated that three occupants of a light motor vehicle, two men and a woman, had sustained multiple gunshot wounds in an alleged ambush,” explained Shawn Herbst, media liaison officer for Netcare 911.

“Paramedics assessed the patients and found that one of the men had sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead on the scene.

“The remaining patients sustained serious injuries and required advanced life support intervention to stabilise them.”

Once treated all the patients were transported by various ambulance services to hospital for further treatment.

Katlehong police have confirmed that a case of murder and attempted murder has been opened.

“It is alleged that two suspects shot at the victims, who were in a vehicle picking someone up on their way to work,” explained Capt Mega Ndobe, communications officer for the Katlehong police.

“The victims all worked at the same company in Germiston.

“It is further alleged that the 49-year-old victim who died on scene was entering the vehicle when he was shot.

“The remaining victims were shot in the upper body and legs while in the vehicle.”

According to Ndobe about 24 spent cartridges and four projectors were found on the scene.

“It is alleged the two suspects fled the scene after the shooting in a white unknown vehicle,” said Ndobe.

“No arrests have been made.”

Katlehong SAPS station commander Brig Sammy Thambo appealed to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to come forward.

“The police will leave no stone unturned in the search for the suspects responsible for this shooting,” said Thambo.
