Barnard family left reeling after tragic death

Selfless – this is the word used most often to describe Chief Supt Roelof ‘Barries’ Barnard. Roelof, who had served in the EMPD for 40 years, died tragically after he was electrocuted at a substation in Stark Road, Estera, while on duty.

Three-car pile-up in Lambton leaves 12 people hospitalised

Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) responded to a call, logged at 7.30am, reporting an accident on the corner of Sinclair Road and Fifth Avenue in Lambton last Friday morning.

Justone set to jazz things up in Croatia

He has the dancing world at his feet and wants to showcase his talent to the world. This is Justone du Plessis (19), a Lambton resident, dancer and part-time instructor at Live to Dance, located in Lambton. The talented youngster jetted off to Croatia last Saturday to participate in the DanceStar World Finals, a prestigious international competition.

Breaking News: High-ranked EMPD officer dies in tragic electrocution

An EMPD officer was electrocuted and died at the Estera substation, in Stark Road, recently. Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) were called to the scene at around 9.28am. “When the ambulance personnel arrived on scene, they found the EMPD officer,” explained William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for DEMS.

Train fire swiftly dealt with in Dinwiddie, no injuries reported

Lillian Mofokeng, senior manager: marketing and communications for Gauteng Metrorail and Passenger Agency of South Africa (Prasa) confirmed that there was a train fire in Studland Avenue, Dinwiddie, last Tuesday morning. She told the GCN the fire was caused due to a rolling stock technical fault at Union Station.
