Stormwater drains in state of disrepair

Newly tarred roads in Primrose could soon fall into disrepair due to a lack of water drainage in the area.

Many motorists travelling in Primrose would have noticed an improvement in the road surface along parts of Pretoria and Main Reef roads.

Though Ward 36 councillor Wendy Morgan welcomes the improvements to the road, she questions how long it will last.

“There is a complete lack of water drainage in the area,” she told the GCN.

“Many of the stormwater drains are damaged or unusable, and yet there seems to be no plans or budget to fix them.

“When it rains many of the roads in the area flood and become dangerous to drive on.”

A stormwater drain in Main Reef Road, Primrose, is completely covered with sand.

The GCN sent a query to the metro to find out if they were aware of the condition of the stormwater drains in the area and if they were, why they had not addressed the condition of the drains while the roads were being resurfaced?

The GCN further inquired what the metro planned to do to address the issue.

However, at the time of going to press no comment had been received from the metro.

Morgan plans to bring the lack of drainage in the area to the attention of the metro at the next council meeting.
