#IMadeMyMark: Special voting continues in Germiston

Special voting continues at local old age homes.

IEC officials took to Elandsvallei Home for the Age to facilitate voting, as proceeding of the second day of special voting in the sixth general elections took place on Tuesday.

Millicent Tlou (IEC official) made a mark on Johannes van Heerden’s left-hand thumb, who has never missed casting his vote during general elections since 1948.

Ninety-five-year-old Johannes van Heerden, who has never missed general elections since he started voting in 1948, was among nine residents at the home who made their mark.

“We all have a say in where the government leads, and voting gives us that voice to say who we want in power,” said Johannes.

“Yes, many promises are made during campaigns, politicians are all liars, but we have to vote, and be careful who we choose when we vote.”

Thrilled to have made her mark in the sixth general elections is Wendy Short.

Residents of Germiston Association for the Aged (GAFA) Protea Old Age Home were eager to finally make their mark by participating in the elections on Monday after waiting from 10am for IEC officials to show up.

“I voted today because I want to give the government direction for the next five years,” said Michael Short, a resident at the home.
