Charity golf day to celebrate home’s centenary

Join in Epworth’s 100th birthday celebrations by helping to raise funds.

Epworth Children’s Village is holding a charity fund-raising golf day on May 14.

The event will take place at the Germiston Country Club to raise funds for the children and forms part of the home’s centenary birthday celebrations.

The playing field is limited to 120 players.

“We are requesting the community’s support by asking for donations of a prize per person for a four-ball or a gift for the players’ goodie bags,” said Roberta Ingrato, the public relations and human resources manager for Epworth.

Epworth provides a home to 85 children of various ages and all races who have been found in need of care by the children’s court.

Epworth caters for children from the age of two years to 18 years old.

The village provides a structured living environment in which the children are encouraged to develop and utilise appropriate behaviour and social skills.

These objectives are met through the therapeutic, educational and recreational components of the programmes.

“As a result of the educational and therapeutic needs within the home, we developed a specialised programme 16 years ago which has become a growing social enterprise.

“This programme is our Epworth Therapy and Assessment Centre and it has become a successful and sought after community resource,” said Roberta.

“Over the years thousands of children have rebuilt their lives with our special help, care and guidance and have grown to be successful members of the community.”

The costs to play in the golf day or to sponsor a hole or prizes is:

• Four-ball: R3 000.

• Single player: R750.

• Sponsor a hole: R 3 000.

• Sponsor prizes: R900

Costs for players include a half-way meal and the prize-giving.

Golf carts and caddies are available for your own account on the day.

Arrangements for the collection of donated items can be made by emailing to ian@epworthvillage.org.za or by calling 011 827 5732.
