#IMadeMyMark: LamDel to host political party question and answer evening ahead of elections

Premier candidates from eight political parties invited to answer questions from the Germiston community.

“When people vote from a place of knowledge it’s better for everyone, especially our country.”

These are the words of Lornette Joseph, chairperson of LamDel Residents Association (RA), ahead of the organisation’s planned question and answer evening, which the community is invited to attend.

The group, which was established in 2016 and encompasses Denlee, Delville, Hazeldene, Hazel Park, Klippoortjie North, Lambton, Parkhill Gardens, Webber and the Germiston Lake, covering two wards and two CPFs, has taken it upon themselves to further educate the community ahead of the May 8 elections and have invited several premier candidates to the event.

The evening will see premier candidates from the ANC, DA, EFF, Good, Agang, ACDP, VF+ and Cope answering questions and concerns raised by the Germiston community.

The question and answer evening will be held at Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston in Webber Road on May 2 from 6.30pm.

“Often the ‘man on the street’ does not know what each political party stands for, often relying on the media or hearsay for their information, and to this end, we would like to host the event,” said Joseph.

“The aim of the event is that our residents will be well informed prior to casting their votes.”

During the evening’s proceedings, each candidate will be given the same questions to answer.

“The questions have will be compiled by the LamDel RA based on what the residents in the area wish to know,” explained Joseph.

“The questions will be given to the candidates on the evening in writing.

“We feel it only fair for every person to answer the same questions as it levels the playing field.”

Joseph encourages residents to email questions to lamdelra@gmail.com.
