Model sets sights on winning in America

A Lambton model has been chosen to represent SA overseas.

She is a young woman with big dreams and slowly but surely she is turning them into a reality.

Elizabeth-Ann van Aswegen (15) from Lambton shone brightly in the modelling section at the recent Talent Africa Competition.

So well in fact that she was selected to represent South Africa at Talent America Competition, which will take place in New York, from June 22 until July 1.

She will compete in the formal and high fashion categories at the international competition.

In her recent competition she entered 10 categories and won the following accolades: casual, silver medal; formal, gold medal; runway, gold medal; high fashion, gold medal; swimwear, silver medal; fitness, silver medal; headshot x2, gold medal; commercial, silver medal; and catalogue, gold medal.

When asked why she entered the competition, the Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston learner said, “I was motivated by my modelling coach, Charmaine Swart, from Vogue Models.

“She was last year’s face of Talent Africa.”

Elizabeth-Ann is extremely excited about the opportunity to represent South Africa overseas.

“I see the competition as giving me the potential to grow and learn a lot and I am very excited to represent my country in America,” she said.

She also sees the competition as a way to further her career.

“My goal is to enter Miss South Africa and I would one day like to have my own modelling school,” she said.

Elizabeth-Ann has two sisters, Letitia and Natasha, and three brothers, Arno, Sean and Richard, and is aunt to four pretty girls.

Her parents, Cobes and Elize, are extremely supportive of her and are always encouraging her and helping her stay positive.

“They attend every pageant I compete in,” she said.

Elizabeth-Ann’s gran Liz Bradbury makes all her dresses for her pageants and she thanks her granny for this.

She also thanks her granddad Martin for his support as her grandparents try to attend every competition she competes in (they travel from Pretoria to wherever she is competing).

When she is not modelling, the youngster enjoys reading, writing and spending time with her family.

In order to attend Talent America Elizabeth-Ann needs to raise R75 000.

To this end she has a number of projects lined up.

They are planning to get local artists together to perform a concert (artists can contact Elize on 078 670 5926 for more information). Elizabeth-Ann will also be selling pancakes and cupcakes, and will do recycling.
