Local do-gooders help change lives

Over 200 Elsburg residents reached in gender-based violence awareness campaign held in Voortrekker Street in Elsburg.

Bertha Gxowa Care Centre together with Elsburg Victim Empowerment Centre and Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) in Germiston, recently held a successful gender-based violence awareness campaign in Voortrekker Street, Elsburg.

The team made up of nurses, social workers, community development workers and victim empowerment volunteers were able to interact with 262 members from the community during the campaign.

During the one-on-one talks, carried out on the day, a few cases of domestic violence were identified and referred to management for ongoing counselling.

HIV counselling and testing was also offered, with about 23 patients being tested.
