More illegal taverns closed in Makause

Two illegal taverns were closed down by the Primrose police in the Makause informal settlement.

During a recent operation in the Makause informal settlement, the Primrose police closed down two illegal taverns, confiscated volumes of alcohol and arrested two suspects, aged 25 and 32 years respectively.

The men were arrested on a charge of dealing in liquor without a licence.

“Officers from the Primrose Police Station entered the settlement on foot to patrol.

“During the patrol, they noticed residents buying and drinking liquor at two separate taverns,” explained communications officer for the Primrose police Sgt Styles Maome.

They approached the owners of each tavern, introduced themselves and asked for the owners’ liquor licences.

“None of the owners had a liquor licence and they were arrested,” said Maome.

The suspects were taken to the Primrose Police Station where they were later released on a warning after paying an admission of guilt fine.
