EMPD recovers stolen vehicle in less than two hours

Working swiftly EMPD SWAT Unit members traced and recovered a stolen vehicle.

A grey Nissan NP200 light delivery van was stolen at 6am in Germiston on Wednesday.

The owner alerted his vehicle’s tracking company which in turn provided information to EMPD SWAT Unit members.

The stolen vehicle was tracked to Tokoza where it was found abandoned at 7.40am.

This Nissan NP200 LDV was recovered by Insp Robert Schultz and Const Kersha Stols from the EMPD SWAT Unit in Phenduka Section in Tokoza not long after it had been reported stolen on Wednesday.

“The two officers from the EMPD SWAT Unit who had just booked on duty at 7am were able to pick up the movements of the stolen Nissan,” said Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD.

“With the assistance of the GPS coordinates, Insp Robert Schultz and Const Kersha Stols located the vehicle on Ngubeni Street in Phenduka Section in Tokoza.

“The dashboard was found badly damaged.

“Apparently, the thieves were trying to get to the tracker unit with the aim of removing it to avoid detection.”

When the formalities were completed on the scene the recovered vehicle was taken to the SAPS pound at Van Ryn Deep in Benoni for further investigation and safekeeping.
