Elsburg SAPS put 19 behind bars

Effective weekend operations by the Elsburg SAPS see 19 criminals behind bars.

The Elsburg police have been working tirelessly to combat crime in their policing precinct.

The officers conducted crime prevention duties such as tracking of suspects and vehicle checkpoints (VCPs) at different places in their policing areas during the weekend and nabbed 19 suspects for various crimes.

Two suspects were arrested on charges of attempted murder, four for assault common, four for drunken driving, two for fraud, six for theft general and one for common robbery.

Furthermore, among the 19 perpetrators, two were arrested for the theft of steel in Black Reef Road, Wadeville, where they allegedly stole aluminium worth R4 200.

“It is alleged that while doing routine patrols, the security guards on duty in the vicinity noticed four unknown men carrying four bags containing objects suspected to be steel,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer at Elsburg police.

“When the suspects noticed the security guards, they dropped the bags containing aluminium and took off on foot.

“The active security officers managed to apprehend the suspects and informed the Elsburg police, who took them into custody.”

All suspects appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court and their cases were postponed for various reasons while others were remanded to Boksburg prison, pending their next court appearances.
