Man critical after gas cylinder explodes in Klippoortje AH

Netcare 911 treated a man with serious burns in Klippoortje AH.

Netcare 911 responded to reports of an explosion at a house in Dragon Street, Klippoortje AH, at 2.51pm on Saturday.

“Reports from the scene indicated that an elderly man sustained serious burns to his entire body when an LPG cylinder exploded in a residential house,” said Shawn Herbst, media liaison officer for Netcare 911.

“The patient was treated on scene by a Netcare 911 emergency care practitioner and once stabilised was transported by ambulance in a critical condition to hospital for further treatment.”

Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS), as well as the SAPS and provincial ambulance services, were on scene.

“Circumstances leading up to the gas cylinder exploding will be investigated by the SAPS,” said Herbst.
