Popular stars descend on Hoërskool Vryburger High

Motivational talks, dance-offs and autograph signings, the perfect way to start a school morning when famous TV stars make a stop at your school.

Social media is one of the most popular ways to make new friends, identify business opportunities and start your life as a trendsetter.

For a local school, their interaction on social media made them worthy of a visit by actors and actresses from one of South Africa’s most loved television shows.

Nine members of the 7de Laan cast arrived at Hoërskool Vryburger High School, on Friday morning, to a hall filled with ecstatic fans ready to capture the surreal moment.

The cast descended on the school to connect and engage with fans and inform them of the arts and opportunities that exist within the industry.

The cast presented a fun-filled programme, including prize giveaways, crowd interaction, dance-offs and a question and answer session.

Proving how their school won the social media interaction challenge, learners were seen documenting the experience on various social media platforms, shrieking and screaming when each cast member addressed them.

On cloud nine, Hoërskool Vryburger High School learners and teachers spent Friday morning with delighted 7de Laan cast members.

“This is our second school visit this year, and we plan on doing a minimum of one school a month,” said Kayleen Bessit, a publicist for 7de Laan.

“For us to end up at Hoërskool Vryburger High, we put out a post, asking schools if they would love a visit from us and the response from this school was overwhelming.

“Learners posted plenty of comments telling us inspiring stories about what the show means to them and how it has influenced them over the years.

“It makes sense for us to go on roadshows, engaging with the learners because we are aware that schools use 7de Laan as a learning tool to improve learners’ Afrikaans.

“We love that we can play that kind of instrumental role in their schooling.”
