Local school nominates Avril Elizabeth for welcome donation

Sparrow’s Nest gives back to Avril Elizabeth Home.

The Avril Elizabeth Home received a wonderful surprise on Wednesday when they were handed a R10 000 donation.

The donation came about due to Mamba Security’s Red Bin Brigade and Sparrow’s Nest Nursery School in Sunnyridge.

The Red Bin Brigade has bins at schools and businesses where donations are collected every year for the benefit of local charity organisations.

“The top five schools, which collect the most donations during the year, are then placed into a draw,” said Shanon van der Merwe, Mamba Security’s events coordinator.

“The draw winner wins R10 000 for the school to be used as a bursary or for whatever the school needs and they can then choose a charity which also receives a R10 000 donation from Mamba Security and our Section 21, non-profit organisation, the Red Bin Brigade.”

Owner of Sparrow’s Nest Kyra Sparrow was thrilled when her school was named the winner.

She immediately thought of nominating the Avril Elizabeth Home to share in her good fortune.

The school filled 12 red bins with donations which included clothes, blankets and non-perishable food.

Kyra said she will probably use the money to upgrade security at the school, including an electric fence, as security is a top priority for them to ensure the learners’ safety.

Sharon Noble, the fund-raiser at Avril Elizabeth Home, said the home was extremely pleased with the donation and grateful for it.

She said that the money would be put towards the care of little Jackson, a four-year-old boy and the youngest resident of the home.
