The new school year is in full swing and the SAPS are warning school children, to be alert and aware at all times.
This comes after a number of cases have been reported, in which children have been robbed of their important belongings while walking to or from school.
In addition to this warning, police have warned children not to walk through the streets with headphones in their ears as they are making themselves vulnerable.

Here are a few safety tips for children:
- Walk in groups after school, not alone.
- Hide your cellphones and other important belongings, at all times.
- Be aware of crime hotspots in your area.
- Don’t talk to strangers.
- Children must be aware of their surroundings at all times and be on the alert for – and suspicious of criminals’ activities.
