Officers root out crime in Wadeville

Joint venture between the Elsburg SAPS and ADT Security Services puts alleged car thieves in jail.

Members of the Elsburg Vispol Unit and ADT Security Services personnel collaborated last Friday with the motive of rooting out criminals who have been terrorising Wadeville with the theft of motor vehicles and car break-ins.

It is alleged the police officers and security guards were driving in a convoy on Lantern Road when they noticed a man who was seemingly hiding behind the wheels of a stationary truck.

“The officers stopped to check what was going on with the unidentified man and found that there were two men hiding,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg police.

“When the men were questioned by the officers about what they were up to, they were unable to answer.

“The men, now suspects, were searched and it was found that they were both pocketing screwdrivers and one had a knife.”

The men, aged between 32 and 37, were arrested and detained in Elsburg police custody.

“The suspects are due to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon to face charges of possession of car break-in implements,” Phooko added.
