Rondebult man accused of assaulting girlfriend with knobkerrie arrested

Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer of the Elsburg police, urges women to report all domestic violence related incidents.

The Elsburg SAPS rushed to a residence in Buttercup Close in Rondebult, last Sunday, following reports of domestic violence.

“The victim claimed she was asleep when her boyfriend returned home drunk and began accusing her of having an affair,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg police.

“When she responded to his accusations saying she is not cheating, he started assaulting her with a knobkerrie.”

Upon arrival, the police found a woman badly beaten, allegedly by her boyfriend, who was found on the scene.

He was apprehended immediately.

The suspect, aged 33, was scheduled to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday to face charges of assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) related to domestic violence.

“Women are advised to report all matters related to domestic violence to the police,” said Phooko.

“Say no to abuse.”
