Fifty-five suspects jailed for various crimes

Buya Mtheto crime prevention activities see 55 nabbed in the Elsburg area.

In efforts to rid the metro of crime and create a safer festive season, the Ekurhuleni West Cluster police stations embarked on “Buya Mtheto” crime prevention activities in various policing precincts over the silly season.

“Through Buya Mtheto, the Elsburg Police Station managed to arrest 55 suspects during normal operations such as the tracing of wanted suspects and stop-and-searches,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg police.

Suspects were arrested for a variety of crimes including assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), rape, attempted murder, contravention of a protection order, possession of dagga, possession of drugs, business burglary, house break-in and theft, malicious damage to property, possession of a hijacked motor vehicle, possession of ammunition, theft and drunk driving.

“All the arrested suspects were expected to appear in various courts,” said Phooko.
