One apprehended in Elsburg for alleged drug possession and live ammunition

Man nabbed in Elsburg for alleged drug possession and possession of live ammunition and subsequently remanded in custody until next court appearance in March.

Whilst patrolling in the Elsburg area, administering crime prevention duties, Lt Col Roelien Opperman, together with a private investigator, Marius van der Merwe, recently made a successful arrest.

The two noticed a suspicious-looking man sitting near a postbox near the Spar Centre, on Voortrekker Road.

“They approached the unknown man and requested to search him,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer of the Elsburg police.

“Upon searching the man, aged 38, they found a clear plastic bag containing white powder suspected to be drugs in his possession.

“He was also in possession of one packet of dagga and one round of live ammunition.”

No firearm was found in his possession.

“The suspect was apprehended and detained at the Elsburg Police Station.

“He appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on January 8, facing charges of dagga possession and possession of live ammunition,” said Phooko.

Following his court appearance, the man was remanded in Boksburg prison custody, pending his reappearance in court on March 20.
