Alleged cash-in-transit bomber nabbed by EMPD in Zonkizizwe

EMPD officers arrested a man alleged to have been involved in a cash-in-transit van bombing.

A man suspected of having been involved in the bombing of a cash-in-transit van belonging to Fidelity Security Group in early November, last year, in Tshongweni Section in Katlehong where an EMPD officer was seriously wounded, was arrested on Monday in Zonkizizwe.

When information about the suspect was received, an operational team, comprising of the EMPD Public Order Policing Task Team, Gauteng CI, Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation members and Magma Investigation members, was activated and the process of closely monitoring the suspect commenced.

When the suspect was spotted last Monday at 7.30pm the operational team cornered him.

They discovered an AK47, with two magazines and 60 live rounds of ammunition, as well as a 9mm pistol, both with the serial numbers filed off in his car and at his home in Sunrise Extension Two in Zonkizizwe.

The arrested suspect, who is in his early 40s, was detained at the Zonkizizwe Police Station. He is expected to appear in the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court soon.
