EMPD puts drunk driving in the spotlight

EMPD officers were out on the roads over the festive season.

Roving roadblocks, between December 15 and 16, last year, yielded 11 drivers allegedly found driving under the influence of alcohol.

From just after midnight on December 15 until midday on December 16, two shifts of the EMPD Public Order Policing Unit mounted roving roadblocks in all three operational regions of the metro which yielded the results.

Four drivers were arrested in Katlehong, two in Tembisa, two in Germiston and one each in Putfontein, Brakpan and Tokoza.

All the arrestees were male and were aged between 22 and 41.

They were detained at various police stations and were expected to appear before a magistrate to face charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.
