Breakneck speed leads to men’s arrests on N12 highway

EMPD High Speed Unit members target speedsters on the N12 highway.

Members of the EMPD High-Speed Unit recently arrested the 33-year-old male driver of a white Ford Escort after he was clocked at the breakneck speed of 210km/h.

The arrest took place at 7.45am on the N12 highway westbound between the Sam Green Bridge and the Germiston turn-off.

“The man gave conflicting reasons for his excessive speed,” said Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD.

“At first he cited being late for work and later somersaulted and claimed he was being pursued by a suspicious white Mercedes Benz.”

He was detained at the Bedfordview Police Station and charged with reckless and negligent driving.
