While on a routine patrol, on Thursday, officers from the Katlehong SAPS Crime Prevention Unit received a tip-off about four men who allegedly planned to rob people of their stokvel money.
“Police used the information given about the vehicle the alleged suspects were driving to search for it.
“It was found in Ramokonopi West Section in Katlehong.
“The vehicle was stopped and the four occupants searched,” said Capt Mega Ndobe, corporate communications officer for the Katlehong SAPS.

A 9mm pistol, with its serial number filed off, and 16 rounds of ammunition were found in the possession of one of the suspects.
While balaclavas, gloves, cable ties and other suspected house break-in implements were found inside a vehicle.
All four suspects, aged between 25 and 57 years old, were arrested and taken to the Katlehong Police Station where they were charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, the possession of house break-in implements and conspiracy to commit a crime.

“The firearm seized in the arrests will be sent to ballistics for further investigation in order to determine whether the same firearm was involved in other crimes in the area,” said Ndobe.
“We encourage the community to share and save their stokvel money through banks so the money is transferred straight to the account of each person involved.”
The men are expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
