The South African Weather Service today released a warning of potential veld fires, severe thunderstorms, heavy rain and damaging winds.
The service’s website explained that the hot and dry weather conditions, that are once again, gripping most of the province has led to an extremely high fire danger.

The service this morning released the following warnings:
- Severe Thunderstorms
Severe thunderstorms with the possibility of large hail and damaging winds and reduced visibility expected in some areas of Gauteng.
- Veld Fires
Veld Fires may be expected in places in Gauteng due to the hot weather.
Motorists are reminded to take the necessary precautions when travelling.
They are encouraged to reduce speed and increase their following distance and headlights should be kept on at all times to increase visibility.
Residents should also ensure that they shelter their pets.
In addition residents are once again reminded that temperatures are set to hits highs of 35 today (Wednesday) and remain in the 30s until Friday.
To protect your health during these hot temperatures, remember to keep cool, drink plenty of liquids and stay out of the sun as much as possible.
Heatstroke and dehydration are a serious risk for both animals and humans during this time.
Severe heat stroke or exhaustion signs or symptoms include the following:
- Severe headache.
- Weakness or disorientation.
- Nausea or vomiting.
- Muscle cramps.
- Severe thirst.
