Survey places Ekurhuleni as best performing metro

Mayor welcomes the Gauteng Region Observatory (GCRO) Quality of Life Survey (QoL) 2017/2018 findings.

Executive mayor Clr Mzwandile Masina has welcomed the Gauteng Region Observatory (GCRO) Quality of Life Survey (QoL) 2017/2018 which places the metro as the Best Performing Metro in the Gauteng Province.

The GCRO conducts a QoL survey every two years in order to track perceptions and megatrends on social, economic and governance issues across the Gauteng City Region.

Masina said: “We are encouraged by the findings of the GCRO QoL 2017/2018.

“Since assuming office in 2016, we have set out to build a stable ANC-led coalition government, which is pro-poor and obsessed with quality service delivery.

“The results of the survey are a testament to the fact that government in Ekurhuleni delivers.”

The QoL 2017/2018 revealed that in terms of satisfaction with services, the metro was ranked number one, ahead of both the City of Johannesburg and the City of Tshwane.

“Our Siyaqhuba Accelerated Service Delivery programme is increasing our efficiency in dealing with service delivery challenges timeously.

“The launch of the My Ekurhuleni Mobile App has also empowered the citizens of Ekurhuleni with the ability to act as the eyes and ears of the metro in reporting service delivery issues,” said Masina.

“We are constantly looking for innovative ways to service our citizens and decrease the time it takes to deal with service delivery issues.

“There is still a lot of room for improvement, but we are delighted to be the number one metro in terms of delivering services to our people.”

Speaking at the release of the fifth edition of the Gauteng Region Observatory (GCRO) Quality of Life Survey at the University of Johannesburg, Premier David Makhura commended the metro for its outstanding service delivery performance.

“Across various services, the Ekurhuleni Metro has seen steady improvements to the point where it is now the best performing metro.

“Of all our metros the survey shows that the City of Ekurhuleni is doing well.

“I commend Masina for his good work,” Makhura said.

The City of Ekurhuleni achieved 66 per cent, while the cities of Johannesburg and Tshwane trailed behind by 63 and 56 per cent respectively.
