Butcher injured following an alleged attempted robbery at his shop

Armed suspects rob bottle store at Tower Centre and are met with gunshots while trying to rob a neighbouring store, ultimately ditching getaway car on the scene, reportedly stolen in Mamelodi East.

Eight suspects allegedly stormed into a bottle store at the Tower Centre in Elspark, recently, and robbed the owner of cigarettes and airtime at gunpoint.

The suspects then allegedly proceeded to the butchery next door to supposedly rob it, but they were met with gunfire from the owner and a local security company officer.

“Following the gunfire, the suspects fled the scene after they shot and injured the owner of the butchery,” said Capt André de Jager, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni West Cluster SAPS.

“The victim was later taken to hospital for treatment.”

The suspects left their getaway car on the scene and it was discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Mamelodi East.

According to witnesses one suspect was wounded and loaded into another car before they sped off.

“The suspects remain unknown and the investigation is still ongoing to trace them,” said de Jager.
