Weather Service warns of potential veld fires, severe thunderstorms and damaging winds in Gauteng
Hot and dry weather conditions could lead to veld fires in some parts of Gauteng, while South African Weather Service warns of severe thunderstorms and heavy rain.
The South African Weather Service today released a warning of potential veld fires, severe thunderstorms, heavy rain and damaging winds.
The service’s website explained that the hot and dry weather conditions gripping most of the province has lead to an extremely high fire danger.

The service this morning released the following warnings:
- Severe Thunderstorms
Severe thunderstorm with heavy downpours leading to localised flooding and large amounts of small hail observed over the northern parts of Tshwane.
- Veld Fires
Veld Fires may be expected in places in Gauteng due to the hot weather.
- Heavy Rain
Heavy rain in parts of Gauteng could lead to road flooding.

Motorists are reminded to take the necessary precautions when travelling.
They are encouraged to reduce speed and increase their following distance and headlights should be kept on at all times to increase visibility.
Residents should also ensure that they shelter their pets.
